Neck and Lower Face

The Lower Face: The Jawline, Neck and ‘Jowls’

The problem
The appearance of ‘jowls’ is without doubt one of the most dreaded aspects of facial ageing. Many patients recall seeing this laxity along the jawline on their mother or grandmother and are dismayed when the same changes start to appear on them.

But poor necklines are not just an ageing issue. Some people are born with naturally unattractive necks which appear either poorly defined or overly full and this affects their entire facial appearance.

The solution
The neck and jawline can be restored to an attractive contour, showing clean definition between the face and neck. The procedure also ‘tidies’ the area around the mouth, reducing the downward creases and lines at the edges of the mouth which form with ageing.

The result is natural and subtle and the result is lasting, in addition to which it also slows the appearance of further ageing. Post-operative recovery is rapid, with minimal bruising and no perceptible signs of surgery within one to two weeks.

This technique is a new advance, and its ability to produce a natural looking result (without any skin tension) across the lower third of the face does require excellent surgical skills and expertise in anatomy, so it is only performed by a few surgeons.  It is called the ‘premasseter lower facelift’ and is performed in the facial anatomy along the side of the neck, firming jowls to the corner of the mouth and providing support for any tissue laxity in the upper neck.

The technique can be performed alone or as part of a facelift, where, by addressing ageing of the lower third of the face and neck, it provides an even level of rejuvenation across the whole face and a balanced result.
