Lid Cheek Junction
The Problem
The junction of the lower lid and the upper cheek is scarcely noticeable on a young person. The area appears simply as a smooth sweep of skin extending from under the eye down over the cheek.
However, with ageing the junction of these two areas both lowers and becomes more visible, often appearing as a slightly bulging area of ‘droop’ under the eye, in a sagging crescent shape. In very advanced cases it can appear as a ring or bag under the eye.
This breaks up the attractive curvature under the eye present in youth and actually starts to dominate the upper half of the face. Once you start to notice it on people around you, it becomes obvious that this is one of the real signs of an ageing face.
The Solution
The surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the lid cheek junction takes place beneath the skin, on the underlying support layer, like all today’s quality facial surgery.
With the visible lid cheek junction removed, the cheek appears rounded and smooth again. If the problem is corrected early, the procedure can be performed just on the lid cheek junction and the surgery is often undetectable within a week. If the ageing is more advanced a cheek lift may also be performed to ensure a nicely shaped and well proportioned result, or a temporal lift may be added in cases of very advanced ageing.
