Progression of Ageing Beneath the Skin

The Modern Face Lift
The image of the artificial ‘Hollywood’ style stretched face is so powerful that there is a general perception these days that all face lifts are obvious and unnatural. This is not the case. A proper modern face lift can achieve what most people want - a totally natural looking refreshment of appearance without any suggestion of surgery.

The illustrations above show what happens when the face ages. The clean shape and contour which is so naturally attractive in youth becomes progressively lost and replaced by the early signs of the ‘tired’ middle aged look.

Fortunately, a modern face lift can reverse this loss of shape and look of tiredness, and subtly restore the more youthful contours that your face had several years ago. As a result your skin tone will also be improved, allowing you to regain the overall appearance of freshness and vitality which ageing had taken away.

It is important to appreciate that a proper modern face lift does not involve pulling the skin at all, as occurs with lesser quality surgery. The surgery is performed on the support layer beneath the skin which becomes lax with age and sags. Restoring this layer automatically brings the face back to its cleaner, more youthful shape. In particular it brings lustre back to the eyes, fullness over the cheekbones and tidier contours along the jaw and upper neck. It will also slow the rate of ageing into the future.

One of the benefits of this technique of face lift is that you can have the surgery at an earlier age and so avoid the most obvious ageing changes and simply appear to age well as the years pass.

However, older people can also benefit, especially from a firmer overall appearance and improved skin tone.

Your appearance is so important for the full enjoyment of your future, so it is natural to have misgivings about considering a face lift. You need to feel completely confident that it will leave you looking refreshed and not altered in any artificial way. To help you understand more about this modern face lift (rather than the older style face lift which is still being performed by some surgeons), we have produced a number of booklets, including ‘What to Look for in a Face Lift’ and ‘Patient Information Notes: The Face Lift.’ If you would like a copy, please contact the office.
