The Importance of Good Knowledge
This section contains comprehensive information on the main procedures, explaining each technique and its aesthetic benefits.
We urge you to read and to ask questions – either in your consultation or by phoning the surgery – until you feel confident with your level of knowledge.
Knowledge is an important part of your ‘journey’, both in making the decision to have surgery and then in helping you to fully participate in the experience itself. It will ensure you get the most out of your surgery and the days that follow, helping you to relax and enjoy the process. That way it becomes the ‘positive experience’ our patients so often describe their own journey as.
We also have booklets and printed Patient Notes on these procedures, which give even more information. If you would like a copy of any of these, please contact the surgery.
The Right Procedure for You
Dr Mendelson’s approach to achieving your desired outcome is one that begins with the first consultation. After listening carefully, he will recommend the surgical procedure that most effectively provides the result you are after.
Sometimes, you may find he suggests a slightly different procedure to the one you were expecting. For instance, to improve the appearance of your upper eyelids, he may suggest including a small amount of bone enhancement above the outer eyebrow, to ensure the most lasting and natural looking result.
This is where patients benefit from Dr Mendelson’s many years of experience and his wide range of skills. It’s also the reason so many return to his trusted aesthetic judgment.
What You Must Know about Facial Ageing and Surgery
Although we notice the appearance of the skin, facial ageing develops from changes beneath the skin in the deeper support layers and not on the skin itself. Accordingly, all surgery performed by Dr Mendelson is beneath the skin. This is the method of all today’s modern, quality aesthetic surgery.
Techniques which rely on pulling the skin are outdated and produce the stretched, artificial look and detectable scarring which has been associated with poor quality surgery in the past. Unfortunately, some of this type of surgery continues to be performed, despite being outdated.
Understanding that quality facial surgery is performed on the deeper, support layers and not the skin is the key to understanding the significant quality differences which exist in aesthetic surgery.
People should never look as if they have had surgery. Achieving a fresher natural look can only be done by correcting where the ageing occurs and not operating on the skin.
