Course Details
The best upper lid blepharoplasty results are obtained using The Tarsal fixation technique. Yet surprisingly, only a few surgeons are comfortable with this procedure. The general attitude of plastic surgeons towards upper lid blepharoplasty seems to be that 'good is good enough', whereas, when it comes to upper lids, 'good is the enemy of best'.

Several factors may explain why few surgeons have adopted this more advanced procedure. First, they may not have an appreciation of the quality of result possible. Then, the initial learning curve in performing the procedure correctly is rather steep. Finally, there is a lack of teaching on the specifics of the procedure, even more so now that the surgeons who pioneered and promoted the procedure have retired.

To overcome this situation, so that Plastic Surgeons can learn the procedure properly and confidently introduce it into their practice, Dr. Bryan Mendelson conducts a comprehensive Tarsal Fixation Workshop from his Office Surgery Centre in Melbourne.  Dr Mendelson is eminently qualified to do this being a recognised expert with the procedure, having over 20 years experience with Tarsal Fixation as his standard upper blepharoplasty technique.

The intensive one day Workshop is structured to allow the attendees to learn properly and thoroughly, by using a combination of live surgery, right at the surgeons side, intermingled with tutorials to cover all aspects of the theory of the procedure; from basic principles to advanced variations.

In theatre the attendees observe several tarsal fixation blepharoplasties being performed. This is where all the details are taught, from the skin markings to the technical details including the nuances that separate ordinary results from the best, The technical nuances are best learnt at surgery, which is why they are not discussed in the few panels at the Instructional Courses on the subject.

Several postoperative patients are reviewed to observe the ‘normal recovery’, as well as the recommended details of the aftercare.
